KaLyn Cooper’s Christmas in Cancun

christmasincancunI’d like to welcome Guest Author KaLyn Cooper to my blog. She has a new release just in time for Christmas:

*****

Christmas in Cancun released on Monday so it’s a busy time for me as an author…and then there’s the whole Christmas Holiday.

Parties, shopping for gifts, a vacation with the whole family (not Cancun this year but we are headed to the Caribbean), shopping on warm islands, cooking, shopping for more food, decorating (and I do it BIG), shopping for more decorations, and then celebrating Christmas with my family.

Then there’s more parties and cooking and…and…

Somewhere in there I have to find time to finish my novella, Conquered in Cancun.

So much to do, and the time flies!

I don’t know about you, but for me, the more I have to do, the better I feel and the more “stuff” gets done. I can be the world’s best procrastinator, especially if I only have one or two things to do and there’s no time constraints. But if I have a whole bunch of things and they all have deadlines, I can rock a list.

Yes, I’m a list maker. There’s nothing I like more gratifying than taking that pen and drawing a line through the completed item, or scribbling through it to decimate that task if it was a tough one, or one I just kept putting off until it was essential.

Today, I have filled a legal pad with all the “stuff” I have to do.

Top of the list is to keep up with all the promotions I have going for Christmas in Cancun, and there are a LOT!

Through Dec. 6 – I am giving away a Diamond Ring to a lucky commenter over on my blog, Rants and Raves of KaLyn Cooper https://kalyncooper.wordpress.com/

Also through Dec. 6 – I am also one of ten authors in the Hottie Hunt blog hop. You can read my interview of Karl, the hero of Tara Quan’s Dec. 22 release, A Christmas Together. Visit all ten blogs, be sure to comment, then follow the instructions to enter to win eBooks and a $10 gift certificate.

Through Dec. 31 – The $100 Hottie Holiday Bonanza runs the entire month. Sixteen authors have chipped in to create a pile of prizes including a $100 gift card. All you need to do is follow the link and you are automatically entered. Comment and you get extra entries.

Dec. 6-10 – Hot for the Holidays. The lovely ladies at Love, Lust and Laptops will each be giving away prizes on their individual blogs and jointly we have even more, so there will be LOTS of winners!

I’m also blogging on several sites. If you comment on them, you are entered to win a pair of Diamond Earrings to be given away Dec. 31st. Follow me on Facebook and Twitter for where I’ll be next.

Whew! Lots to do, but I love it.

Now, tell me your holiday plans. Parties? You hosting or attending? Where do you plan to spend Christmas? Did you buy anything really unusual as a gift? (I’m always hunting gift ideas.) Comment here and you’re entered to win those diamond earrings!

Christmas in Cancun Blurb

Busy building a new career with his catamaran company, former SEAL Jack Girard had all but forgotten about his grandfather’s quest to find the golden Mayan goddess statues until his brother’s beautiful widow, Jillian, and adorable daughter, Addison, arrive in Cancun with the research materials. His need to complete the family mission is almost as strong as his desire for Jillian.

Between raising her daughter alone and finishing her doctorate in Mayan anthropology, Jillian doesn’t have time for a man in her life. Although, after mourning her husband’s murder for two years, she’s ready for a man her bed.

An underwater Virgin Mary statue and centuries-old manuscripts lead the two of them through the Mayan Riviera and directly into danger.

During steamy Caribbean nights together, will they develop the ability to move on and discover the real treasure isn’t gold?

Excerpt for Christmas in Cancun

Jillian had been ready to scream for the police when the man grabbed her baby. She’d read about airport kidnappings in foreign countries and how, if the parents didn’t pay up immediately, they’d sell the child. She didn’t have much money and no idea how to get the massive amounts she was sure a kidnapper would require. She couldn’t let him take her baby. No, she wouldn’t let him take Addi.

The dark evil thoughts that raced through her fatigued mind delayed understanding the fact that he’d called her baby girl by name, her nickname. Then he’d said he was Jack Girard.

Jack? No. This couldn’t be Jimmy’s brother Jack. He was a Navy SEAL. Every picture she’d seen of him, and there were several, he’d been in one uniform or another. Or he’d been in nothing but low-slung swim trunks and behind the wheel of a boat as a teenager. He’d been clean-cut with short hair, was close shaven and extremely good looking.

The man who held her daughter was a different man altogether.

Jack Girard wasn’t this long-haired, shaggy, sun-bleached-blond Adonis with bulging tanned muscles under a blue polo shirt with a sailboat logo emblazoned over an impressive chest. The man before her looked deadly on every level. His light blue eyes were hard as arctic ice with hints of green. Then she watched his whole face transform as he smiled at Addi and poked a finger into her baby’s belly. The green had overtaken the blue, and he looked like a loving father playing with his child. Her child.

Jillian couldn’t breathe.

“You ready to meet your hellion cousins, little princess?” His voice was playful, yet its low tones reverberated through Jillian, shaking parts of her soul that had been dormant for more than two years. Since her husband’s murder. Addi squirmed at his touch and giggled.

“Uh…I’ll take her,” Jillian managed to push out through her tightened throat as she grabbed for her child. When he turned his broad smile toward her, her world focused on his white teeth, all of them perfectly straight except for one eyetooth, which turned slightly.

It was Jimmy’s smile. Except Jimmy was dead.

Her knees went weak. Her vision blurred. No matter how hard she tried, her lungs refused to work. Indistinct sounds echoed in the tall room and overwhelmed every one of her senses. The world went white.

“Whoa.” Jack’s voice shot through the encroaching fog in her brain, and a strong arm snapped around her back. “Breathe, Jillian. You’re safe.”

Sizzling Summer Nights Blog Hop

Welcome to my blog on the Sizzling Summer Nights Blog Hop.

If you started with my blog, you need to go HERE and get on the blog bus.  Along the tour there will be chances to enter to win all sorts of prizes from the participating authors and the grand prize a 16 GB Kindle Fire.

While I am donating a download of one of my Monette Michaels’ books to the prizes for the hop, I will give away a copy of one of my Rae Morgan books to one lucky commenter on this blog post.  My Rae Morgan books are listed HERE.

And as part of the Summer celebration, I am sharing the first chapter of Moon Magick, Book 2 in my Coven of the Wolf series.  Brenna Lindsay, a witch, discovers something dangerous during her Summer Solstice ritual. Hope you enjoy.

Excerpt from Moon Magick:

Brenna Lindsay stood silently in the circle she’d formed of white beeswax candles. The full moon bathed the clearing with silver light. Cool night air met the still-warm ground, creating wispy patches of ground fog blanketing the earth like a sheet of transparent white cotton.

Her wolf, White Star, sat on his haunches next to her, alert and on guard. Her other companions, twin shape shifters, Boris and Igor, prowled the perimeter of the glen, watching for any hint of danger.

Coven of the Wolf, #2

Coven of the Wolf, #2

A hoot of an owl and the rustling of a small creature were the only sounds detectable on the night air.

Brenna relaxed, trusting that her companions would stand guard. She resumed her preparations for the Summer Solstice ritual. Normally, at the lesser Sabbat of Litha, it was common to seek the Goddess’s blessing upon earth’s bounty and protection for one’s home. With the veils between the worlds of light and dark at their thinnest, a witch has the charge to maintain the delicate balance.

This year, that duty was of higher consequence.

Evil was afoot, and had gathered strength since June’s crescent moon. It was then that she’d received the first warning, a note tacked to one of her herb farm’s drying sheds – – We’re watching you, witch. Stay out of business that doesn’t concern you, or else!

After several more ominous threats and some incidents of vandalism, she contacted the head of the Coven of the Wolf in Chicago, Drake Morgan. Briefly, she’d considered going to the local law. The new sheriff was reputed to be a fair and impartial man, but she quickly discarded the notion. No matter how open-minded the sheriff was, once the words “witch” and “magick” became involved, his liberalness would vanish more quickly than ice in Hell.

Drake’s response had been gratifyingly immediate. He sent two men from his security team, the Russian twins, Boris and Igor, to investigate – – and provide protection. They’d arrived yesterday, just in time for the midsummer ritual.

A light breeze blew her azure-colored cloak against her legs and caused the blanket of light fog to shift and move as if it were a living, breathing creature. She shivered as some animal screamed in the forest at the edge of the clearing. Star stiffened beside her, nose raised to sniff the air. After a moment he relaxed, nudging her hand in reassurance, urging her to finish the night’s business.

Whatever was out there was not a direct threat to them, or Star would’ve attempted to drag her away.

Turning back to her preparations, she placed several large amethysts and other protective stones that she would ask the Goddess to bless. The larger stones she would bury around her house and those of the other local coven members. The smaller stones she would fashion into protective amulets for her non-coven employees to wear while on the job.

But her magick could not insulate the countryside. So, she would seek a visualization of the evil. She hoped that once she knew who or what was the cause, she would be able to stop it before anyone got hurt.

In the exact center of the circle lay a small pond. It was this she would use for the scrying.

“Woo-oof.” Star nudged her hand.

She looked down at her pet and smiled. The white star marking around his eye almost glowed in the moonlight. It was the only lightness on him other than his silver-colored eyes, his pelt being as dark as a moonless night. “What is it, boy? Do you wish to hunt whatever is rustling out there in the woods?”

Star showed his teeth and nodded.

Laughing, she stroked her pet’s head between his ears. “Go on with you. Boris and Igor will protect me. Just don’t bring whatever you catch home. I don’t want rodent parts in my house.”

Star rubbed his head against her leg in obeisance, then took off for the wall of trees at the edge of the clearing. His dark body merged into the inky shadows.

“Why do you put up with that wild animal?” asked Boris, or was it Igor? She still had a bit of trouble telling the two apart.

“He’s no wilder than either of you.” Her glance swept over the twins, who’d shifted from their wolfhound form into human. They stood outside the circle, their pale, naked bodies almost glistening in the bright moonlight, waiting to be invited inside.

“Please enter. All be blessed who come within.” After the two crossed over, she re-consecrated the circle and began to light the white beeswax candles. “Didn’t you bring any clothes?”

“No,” said one of the twins, she thought it might be Igor, since his tone seemed serious. “We thought summer solstice rituals were performed sky clad.”

“Traditionally they are,” she said, “but this spot is adjacent to public forest land, so it is safer to have clothing at hand.”

“Be assured, Mistress. If someone comes, we’ll shift back to animal form,” the other twin said. This had to be Boris. Igor had stopped calling her mistress yesterday evening. She thought Boris, who’d proven to be somewhat of a smart-aleck, did it to pull her chain.

“Boris, I asked you not to address me as mistress.” She turned to complete the arrangements for her ritual. “My employees are beginning to wonder about our relationship.”

Boris stifled a snicker.

She glared at him. “That wasn’t meant to be funny. This is a small town, and all I need is for one of the non-believers to go to the new sheriff and tell him I’m a dominatrix. Or, that I’m having orgies with two of my employees.”

“Yes, ma’am,” Boris said, grinning like a loon.

“What can we do to help?” asked Igor as he punched his brother in the arm with his fist.

“Nothing. Just stand and listen.”

Brenna arranged a wreath of white flowers on her hair, then removed her outer cloak. Both men gasped, but she refused to acknowledge their recognition of the sheerness of her robe. Igor was correct – – most rituals were performed in the nude. To honor the tradition, but protect her modesty in case someone stumbled onto her during ritual, she preferred a sheer gown.

Taking her staff of polished oak, she pushed it into the earth. By grounding herself to Mother Earth, she would prevent an inadvertent crossing over into the dark world. Closing her eyes, she felt the flow of the Gaia’s life force seeping its way into her. She was now ready to plumb the high energy of the summer solstice. If things went well, she would garner that energy for protection and seek out the root of the evil.

Picking up the chalice containing wine she had pressed from last year’s grape harvest, she took a sip, then held her hands to the sky.

Goddess, we bring thee gifts to celebrate the time of light and dark.
Help us seek balance.
Bless these stones to protect our home and those within.
Provide us with the wisdom to preserve the gifts of your bounty.

As her words ended, the crystalline stones she’d placed around the circle shimmered and glowed. She turned toward the East and took another sip of the wine.

Goddess, send the winds to refresh our land.

The eastern breeze increased in its intensity, clearing out the heavy night mist. She turned toward the South, toasting the Goddess once more with her cup.

Goddess, send the sun to warm the earth and allow all life to flourish.

A strobe-like flash of light from the south swept over the circle, then vanished into the ground at Brenna’s feet. She rotated another quarter-turn toward the West and sipped her wine.

Goddess, bless us with rain to help the bounty grow.

The rumble of thunder and a flash of lightning came from a cloudless sky and the pond rippled with the droplets of a phantom thunderstorm. She turned one final time.

Goddess, send the seasons in their proper time.

Brenna took the green cord knotted about her waist and kissed the ends, ending the traditional Litha ritual.

Going to the four-points of the compass on the circle, she laid offerings of flowers and cookies for the nature spirits, asking them to aid in the protection of her home.

Kneeling by the pond, she grew warm from the power she’d taken. Stirring the waters in a clockwise fashion, she imparted some of the energy to the cool liquid. Within the misty swirls, images began to form as she sought knowledge of those who threatened her and those she protected – – maybe even the why of the threats.

Goddess, all we have asked of you,
We welcome with open hearts full of light and goodness.
Please reveal who seeks to harm me and mine.

The waters bubbled and boiled as the air within the circle whistled and screamed like a banshee. A white owl swooped down and landed at the edge of the pond, a mere arm’s length away from Brenna. Its golden-eyed gaze captured hers with its intensity. Boris and Igor closed in on the bird. She stayed them with a shake of her head.

The owl spoke to her mind:

Daughter, you have done right in seeking me out. There is a darkness upon the land. The dark ones are using you and yours for their own evil purposes. Soon, you will discover their perfidy and must choose your path to reestablish harmony. Be warned, you must not battle the evil alone, for you are of the light. Look to the waters. See the other that will make you whole. Together, in balance, you will defeat the threat from the darkness.

The owl blinked once, then flew off with a flashing of wings.

Brenna gazed at the waters. Among the ripples she saw many things. Death would come this very night. Evil would reign over the land. The only way to halt the onslaught of darkness and defeat evil’s takeover was to find her opposite, a man of strength, formed in the fire of battle. A warrior.

At the last image, she closed her eyes, but still she saw – – him. The one. He was naked, his bronzed body sculpted by a master’s hand. His hair was long and silky black, touching his shoulders. His profile was formidable – – his nose straight as a blade, his face, rugged. But what was indelibly etched on her mind’s eye were his hands, long-fingered, as they reached for her as she lay, naked, on an unfamiliar bed in a room she had never seen.

Shaken by what the Goddess had revealed to her through the owl, she didn’t shrug off Boris’s assistance in standing. On her own, she might never have gotten off the ground.

“Correct me if I’m wrong, Brenna,” said Boris, for once being sober. “But aren’t owls symbols for the crone aspect of the Goddess?”

“Yes.” She shivered and looked around for her cloak. Igor held it for her and she slipped it on, grateful for its warmth against the damp night air. “The trilogy of the Goddess – – Maiden, Mother, Crone. The crone represents wisdom, thus the owl. The full moon is the phase associated with the crone.”

“What did the owl tell you?”
Before she could frame an answer, a howling erupted from the darkness. The sound raised the hairs on her arms.

“It’s Star. He’s found something.”

She ran toward the sound of Star’s cry. Shifting into their animal forms, Igor and Boris ran alongside her, then quickly out-stripped her two-legged pace with their four.
She followed them into the forest’s foreboding darkness.

When she found them, the trio stood in a semi-circle at the base of a large oak tree, gazing upwards at something she could not see from her angle of approach. Hurrying to join them, she hit a wall of energy, as solid as if it were made of bricks. Malevolence exuded from the psychic barricade, making her queasy.

Star whimpered, then called to her. “Woof!”

She fought her way through the thick murk to join her companions.

Treading carefully, she walked around the oak’s trunk. Her hand automatically reached out to calm Star, who whined, low and incessantly, at the back of his throat. She looked up to see what had captured their awful attention.

“Blessed Goddess.” She would have fallen if one of the twins had not shifted shape to catch her within his strong arms.

A beam of moonlight had fought its way through the canopy of trees and highlighted the oak’s trunk. Like a black-and-white horror show, it outlined the figure of a man staked to the tree. His blood ran darkly down his naked body and dripped onto the forest floor.

Muttering a prayer to God and the Goddess, she sought a swift passing for his essence to the other side. But it was not to be.

The man’s spirit pummeled her senses with his need to be avenged, seeking entrance to her mind.

Be calm, angry spirit. I will listen . . .later. There are actions that must be taken first.

It was as the visions in the pond had revealed – – the duty to seek out the evil and vanquish it belonged to her and the man she had yet to meet. Until that time, she had to follow mankind’s laws. There was no way to hide this death from the authorities.

“We have to call the sheriff,” she addressed the twins. “One of you has to go and report this. The other has to go to the clearing and clean up the circle. I’ll stay here.” The naked male warmth plastered against her back, enveloping her, caused her to add, “and for goodness sake, get some clothes.”

“One of us can stay here,” argued Igor, his warm breath caressed her cheek. His arms were the ones that had caught – – and still held her. Closely, too closely. His nakedness added to her unease with what the night had brought – – that and the knowledge that he was not the “one.”

“No,” she said as she sought to move away from his possessive embrace. Igor growled low in his throat as his grip tightened for a mere fraction of a second, then went slack.

Before he could rethink his position, she stepped out of his arms and turned to capture both twin’s gazes with her own. “I have to stay. I need to make an attempt to reach what might be left of his life force.” And that of the evil which lingers here, but they didn’t need to know that. “Besides I’ll have Star with me. He and I will do just fine.”

“Brenna, you can’t get mixed up in this,” said Boris. “With the threats to expose you as a witch – – ”

“He was killed near my land. I’m already involved. Besides, a death was prophesied by the Goddess for this night. His death. The balance has shifted to the dark side. She has informed me it is my duty. I have to shift it back.”

Igor’s sharp blue eyes swept over her face. “Just what did you see in the scrying?”

“The future.” My future. “And somehow this man’s death will bring it to me.”

Security Specialists International, Book 3

Security Specialists International, Book 3

Blurb:

Research librarian Elana Fabrizzio was in the wrong place at the wrong time. While working her late night shift at the library, she overhears a man hire a mercenary to kill Keely Walsh-Maddox and other Security Specialists International operatives. Things go from bad to worse when the man kills a student and a security guard on his way out of the library.

SSI operative Vanko Petriv is in New York City on holiday and is redirected to Washington, D.C. to become Elana’s personal security. Turns out the man she overheard is the traitor SSI has been pursuing for quite a while. Her eyewitness testimony would eliminate the treacherous thorn in SSI’s side and rid the intelligence community of a traitor once and for all.

Vanko is instantly attracted to the courageous Elana and vows to make her his. Elana is surprised when she’s attracted to Vanko. Bad past experiences have made her leery of dominant men.

When another enemy from Elana’s past appears, Vanko does what is needed to keep her alive. Their burgeoning attraction is threatened from all sides, but true love weathers any storm.

Excerpt:

“Vanko.” Elana’s soft voice sounded tired…weak. Her eyes were a dull gray. It hurt his heart to see her vitality muted by pain.

“What, dushka?” He sat on the edge of the bed. He stroked her bare arm. She was too warm, but he had to trust the antibiotics would handle the elevated temperature. The wound was clean and treated as well as it could be under the circumstances. “Do you want more to drink? You only took enough to swallow your pills.”

“Maybe in a bit.” The corner of her lips turned up slightly and her eyes sparkled with mischief if only for a split-second. “You were very mean to the nice doctor.”

“I don’t trust the nice doctor. I won’t trust anyone around you until the traitor is in jail,” or dead, “and Demidas is captured.” Or dead, preferably by my hand.

Elana snorted, a delicate little exhale that sounded very much like restrained laughter. His heart lightened a bit at the sign of her sense of humor. Yes, this woman was one to be kept close and cherished.

“Are you laughing at me, angel moy?” He leaned over and brushed a kiss across her flushed cheek; the red on her cheekbones was the only color in her face.

“Uh-huh.” She licked her lips and frowned. “I guess I do need a drink. I want another Pepsi.”

When he glowered at her, she stuck out her lower lip. Damn, she was cute when she sulked. “Elana—”

She cut him off. “Please…I want the Pepsi for taste. Whatever medicines you just gave me…I can taste them.” She scrunched her nose. “Nasty.”

“I recall the taste. It is very nasty.” He brushed an errant lock of hair off her forehead, then stroked her fine-grained skin. “I’ll check to see what’s stocked in the small kitchen in our suite. If they don’t have Pepsi, I’ll send Petr for some when he returns from the embassy compound.”

“Okay, sounds good.” She yawned and her eyes began to drift shut. “Don’t leave me.”

He heard the tinge of fear in her voice and that wasn’t acceptable. “I won’t leave our suite. I promised, remember?”

She nodded. Her brow creased. “Where will you sleep? You need to rest while you can.”

Elana was worried about him when she was the one with a bullet wound and a fever. “I’ll sleep in this room. I can guard you better that way.”

“You’ll sleep in bed…with me.”

It didn’t sound like a question, more like an order. “You wish me to lie next to you?” He stiffened at the thought of sleeping next to her, protecting her body with his…loving her. His cock went on full alert.

Down, boy. She was injured, sick, and in pain—his desires had no place in this room at this particular time. Later? Definitely.

“Yes, Vanko. By my side.” She wrinkled her nose, and he had to fight the urge to kiss the cute tip. “Because sleeping in a chair or over on the small settee won’t allow you to rest. So…after you find me a Pepsi and the food you promised, you’ll lie down next to me and rest. Understood?”

“I understand you’re a bossy bit of goods when you get pain meds in you.” Vanko chuckled.

“Damn straight. Comes from ordering students around in the library.” She curled a finger. “Come closer.”

Vanko leaned over until they were almost nose to nose. “Yes, Elana moy?”

“Kiss me.” She licked her visibly dry lips. “You tucked me in, now you have to kiss me. It’s a rule, you know.”

Vanko laughed softly. Elana obviously became uninhibited on pain medications. He’d make sure no other males were ever around her when she was on drugs.

“With pleasure, angel moy.” He brushed several light kisses over her closed lips. He swept his tongue over her lower lip, once…twice, moistening it. When she gasped, he took her mouth fully, thrusting gently with his tongue. It was a tame kiss for a man of his experience and needs, but Elana wasn’t ready for the hungry, biting kisses he liked to give and receive in return.

When he broke off the kiss, she sighed and a smile curled her lips. “We need to do that again. You taste good like…” She paused, and he could almost see the wheels turning in her sluggish brain. “…like coffee and chocolate mint.” She inhaled deeply and heaved another sigh. “You smell good, too.”

“You are high, dushka.” He licked his lips. The taste of her was on them, a unique, lush taste slightly tinged with the Pepsi she’d had in the car. “Be assured. We’ll definitely be doing that—and more—as soon as you’re feeling better.”

She yawned widely like a sleepy kitten and closed her eyes. “Goody.”

Emilia Mancini’s Seducing Kate

seducingkate-510 (1) I want to welcome my fellow LL&L lady, Emilia Mancini, who has a sexy new book coming out. She is also sponsoring a contest to celebrate her new release. Personally, I loved her first book, The Rebound, so I can’t wait to read Seducing Kate.

****

While doing blog tours for a new release, a lot of people ask something like: What was your inspiration for this story?

I can’t tell you what inspired Kate and Kyle’s story. All I know is that these two wrapped themselves around my brain and wouldn’t let go until I finished telling their tale. Even then, they wouldn’t stop circling in my brain.

I love these characters. I love their courage and connection. I love their dedication to each other even though they know their relationship can’t last. And I love the lessons they learn from each other.

Kate learns that she doesn’t have to date jerks to have a lover who is willing to treat her a little rough. And Kyle learns that he likes to walk a little closer to the wild side than he had previously realized.

These are great lessons, and they learned them in the best possible way. In the bedroom.

Seducing Kate will be available January 24 from Musa Publishing.

It was lust at first sight for Kyle when he met his roommate Justin’s mother Kate. Kyle, a college transfer, was too far from home to visit on short school breaks, so Justin took him to Minneapolis where his mother was serving up a family meal for Thanksgiving.

One look left Kyle with a healthy obsession for Kate which grew with each visit. When he landed an internship in Minneapolis, he moved in with Kate for the summer, and got in touch with his voyeuristic side. It wasn’t until one late evening and a few too many glasses of wine that Kyle began to suspect his attraction wasn’t one-sided.

When he dared to push the issue, he found Kate more than willing to succumb to his seduction.

Excerpt:

I’d barely spent time with Kate, just a few minutes in the kitchen before John had come strutting in. I had sat across from her at dinner making awkward conversation while Justin and John glared at each other over the spaghetti and garlic bread. It wasn’t like she’d crawled across the floor half naked and begged me to fuck her.

What the hell was it about her? Sure she was beautiful, but I’d dated beautiful women. None of them had pushed me to the point of obsession. I wanted nothing more than to throw Kate down and fuck her until she screamed. Not cried out like she had moments ago, but screamed. And dug her nails in my back. And wrapped her legs so tight around me I couldn’t breathe. I didn’t know why. All I knew was my body was borderline insane with lust, and my dick was so hard it hurt.

“Fuck.”

I turned the cold water on and splashed my face a few times to snap out of the Kate-induced haze. When I was finally able to think about something other than having sex with her, I went back downstairs.

I tried like hell to focus on the game, but my mind kept wandering. No, it wasn’t wandering. It was reliving my trip upstairs, from the groans, to the flash of tit, to the blush on Kate’s cheeks.

I held out for another hour of video games before I couldn’t take the agony of wanting her any longer. I went up to my room and slipped between the cool sheets of the guest bed. I put a sock over my dick and got off to images of my roommate’s mother.

I pictured her pale ass sticking in the air as I gripped her hips and slid into her tight pussy. I imagined my fist tangled in her hair as she sucked my cock. I even fantasized about her standing over me in black heels and a tight business suit as she ordered me to jerk myself harder.

As I came—hard—I wondered how I was ever going to control myself around her.

Excerpt:

As soon as Earl felt the slack, he kicked off the side of the ravine and covered the ten feet or so with one kick-off. He hung over Tessa’s body for a second before making a controlled landing on the ledge next to her. The ledge was solid, thank the fuck.

“Tweeter, the ledge can hold us both,” Earl said. “Come on down.”

As Tweeter made his final descent, Earl tugged and received more slack and then bent over Tessa’s still body. She lay on her front, her face turned to the side. Her eyes were shut, her lashes lined with ice. Her skin was whiter than the snow she lay upon.

“Tessa?” No response.

He brushed the snow away from her face with gloved hands. Removing one glove, he checked for a pulse and found it. He sighed with relief. “She’s alive.” He checked her neck and determined it wasn’t broken as far as he could tell. “Neck doesn’t seem to be broken, but I want a collar down here. Tweeter, a hat … need a hat here.”

Most heat loss was from an uncovered head. He needed to get her warm ASAP. Hypothermia was the biggest danger at this point.

Tweeter hunkered down next to him and put his own stocking cap on Tessa. His climbing partner had on a balaclava just as he did and would be fine without the extra layer of wool.

“If you feel it’s safe, then lift her,” Tweeter said. “I’ll get this solar blanket under her so we can wrap her in it.”

Earl nodded. “Tessa, sweetheart? Talk to me.”

Still no response, and she wasn’t shivering. Not a good sign. Even unconscious her body would shiver to produce heat. Her lips were blue. Her skin looked dehydrated, and he remembered she had already shown signs of altitude sickness.

He felt under her coat and swore. “Godammit, she’s soaking wet.” He looked at Tweeter whose face was as grim as he felt. “Probably from the exertions of trying to climb out.”

Tweeter nodded. “No matter how she got wet, it isn’t good. We need to move, Earl.” The man grabbed the collar sent down to them and gently placed it around her neck.

“Let’s do it.” Earl lifted Tessa’s limp body into his arms and laid her on her back on the blanket Tweeter had spread on the ground.

“Fuck me.” Tweeter’s curse said it all.

Tessa’s clothing was torn and bloody.

They quickly wrapped her like a mummy in the high-tech sheet which would keep her from losing any more body heat.

“God, sweetheart, look at what you’ve done to yourself.” Earl lifted the edge of the blanket just enough to slide his hand inside. He quickly, by touch alone, checked her ribs, collar bone, and pelvic bones for breaks. Then he moved to her legs. “No obvious breaks that I can find.”

SSI had a fully equipped medical facility run by Lacey Jones, a trauma nurse and the wife of Quinn, Ren’s third in command. She could check Tessa out more fully later.

“She didn’t climb all the way up from the stream bed.” Tweeter looked over the edge of the ledge upon which they perched.

Earl retucked the blanket more closely around Tessa. He brushed the back of his fingers over her icy cold cheek. Her lashes fluttered—the first sign of movement from her since they’d gotten there.

Thank you, God.

“Looks like the SUV got hung up on a tree. I see an area where some roots are still hanging out from the side of the ravine. It’s fresh damage.” Tweeter turned to look at Earl. “She was lucky to have gotten out before the vehicle fell to the bottom.”

She had to have been terrified, but she’d done what she had to do. His woman had grit.

“Yeah.” Earl stroked her face once more before putting his glove back on. “We can find out exactly what happened later. Let’s move.”

The wind gusted even harder now than it had on their descent. Tweeter had to fight to stand upright on the ledge. Climbing out with an unconscious woman wouldn’t get any easier the longer they waited.

“How do you want to do this?” Tweeter eyed the climb. “Sides of the ravine are too rough to haul her up. She has enough lacerations.”

“I’ll take her on my back.” Earl began to fashion a rope harness with the extra rope he’d carried down. “You can tie her to me by my harness.”

As Earl quickly fashioned a torso harness with doubled lengths of rope, Tweeter hunched down by Tessa and commented, “I did this with Keely when we went rock climbing one summer in Montana.”

Earl put the make-shift harness on Tessa with Tweeter’s help and tightened it.

“Keely sprained her ankle,” Tweeter added. “She rode my back on the way up and out. But she was conscious and short and only weighed about ninety pounds at the time. Tessa’s almost six foot and weighs maybe one forty.”

“I can do it.” Earl brushed his lips over Tessa’s forehead. Other than the one fluttering of lashes, she hadn’t made any other motions the whole time they’d been there. “I’ve carried wounded soldiers on my back, with sixty-pound packs, up the side of mountains in Afghanistan in worse conditions than this.”

Those times hadn’t been a walk in the park, but they had been crucial and necessary. Carrying Tessa to safety fit into the same category—life and death.

He pulled the wool neck scarf off his neck and wrapped it around her lower face to give her more warmth. “You’ll have to get her on my back and then make sure she’s tied to me securely. The wind’s vicious.” He didn’t want her torn from him with a savage gust.

“I can do that.” Tweeter double-checked all the harness knots. “Knots I’m good at.”

At Tweeter’s last words, Tessa blinked and slitted her eyes open. What little body heat they’d managed to salvage for her had helped her rouse a bit.

Earl murmured, “Hey there, sweetheart. Welcome back.”

“Cold. Sick…” she muttered and moved her head from him to Tweeter and then back. “Where—” Her voice trailed off and she closed her eyes.

“Tessa! Stay with me, baby. Where do you hurt?” Earl sat and gathered her into his arms, adding his warmth to the solar blanket.

Her eyelids fluttered, but remained closed. She licked her lips, which were tinged blue and very chapped. “All … over. Sick … threw up.” She coughed, and Earl tilted her body so she could breathe easier. “Do I have … flu?”

Earl groaned. “No, baby.” She wasn’t completely with them. Delirium wasn’t good. He looked into Tweeter’s worried eyes. “Let’s haul ass.”

Then Earl spoke into his head set. “Ren, have someone get an IV ready. She needs fluids.”

She’d been sick before she left the Lodge; he’d smelled it in her bathroom. If she’d been sick again on the mountain, she was in danger of not only hypothermia, but hypovolemia and possibly hypovolemic shock. A deadly double whammy. He’d lost men that way on forced marches at high altitude in a war zone. He wasn’t losing her.

“On it,” Ren’s calm voice replied. “Price is setting it up now in the Hummer. We have heat packs ready to go also. Just get her up here. Weather’s deteriorating. A new storm front is moving in with blizzard warnings for the rest of today and tonight.”

“Roger that,” Earl replied. “Hold her up for a second, Tweeter.”

Tweeter took over bracing Tessa as Earl stood. “Okay, I’ve got her.” Earl pulled Tessa up and held her against his body, her front to his front. She was as limp as an over-cooked noodle. “Can you hold her upright while I turn and take her on my back?”

“Got it. Go.” Tweeter encircled Tessa from behind and braced her against his body.

Earl turned his back to them and stooped. “Lean her on me and brace her. I’ll pick her up and then you can tie her to me.”

“Got her, Earl,” Tweeter confirmed.

“W-w-what’s … happening?” Tessa slurred the words.

“Shh, it’s okay, Tessa. Earl’s giving you a piggyback ride.” Tweeter’s explanation was spoken in a gentle voice as he positioned Tessa for Earl to pick her up.

“Yippee.” Her tone held no inflection, and her voice was breathy. She could speak, but aphasia wasn’t far off. Without warmth and proper hydration, her brain would shut down unnecessary systems in order to protect the crucial internal organs to maintain life.

Earl reached for her legs, hooked his arms under her knees, then lifted her onto his back. Tweeter immediately began to secure her rope body harness to Earl’s climbing one. Tessa’s head lay on his shoulder, her cheek turned toward his neck. The scarf he’d wound around her face must have slipped, because he could feel her labored breathing against his neck.

“Tweeter, we’re gonna lose her,” Earl rasped. His fear for her well-being tinged his voice.

“She’s on,” Tweeter said. “Let go. I need to secure her legs to your waist, so they won’t impede your climbing.”

Earl straightened, and once he was sure her body was tied to him, he let go of her knees one at a time. Tweeter fashioned a sling to support her bent legs and attached it to her rope harness and then to the D-rings on Earl’s climbing harness.

“Her torso and legs are secure, but what about her arms?” Tweeter had come to stand next to him. “She can’t hold on. She’s unconscious again. Do you want me to tie her arms around your neck?”

“Yeah, but tie her wrists to the D-rings on my shoulder,” Earl suggested. If he were on level ground, he would’ve just held her arms around his waist, but he needed both arms for climbing.

“Gotcha.” Tweeter quickly tied Tessa’s wrists to D-rings on each of Earl’s shoulders. “I made sure the ropes were around her gloves and loose enough not to cut off circulation.”

Neither man spoke the thought Tessa might not have any feeling by this point in any of her limbs. Paresthesia had probably set in once Tessa had gotten cold and then been exacerbated by her loss of fluids.

“Yo, on belay,” Earl informed the men on top.

“Belay on. Climb,” a Walsh twin said.

“Climbing,” Earl replied.

When he felt the tightening of the slack in his ropes, he found a foothold off to the right of the ledge and stepped off the ledge, first his right foot and then his left. He found his balance at a slight angle from the rock wall, and then, using all his upper-body strength and training, began to climb up the wall. The men on top picked up the slack and assisted, but much of the work was still on him. He used natural footholds when he could, but relied on the men at the top to make sure the rope stayed taut as he walked his way up the side of the ravine.

Tessa’s extra weight, coupled with gravity, made the climb a challenge. The wind didn’t help the situation as the gusts shoved him around on the unforgiving, cold, wet wall.

Earl ignored the strain on his hands, arms, and shoulders and concentrated on using all the skills he’d learned in the Army. He’d be sure to drop his trainers a thank you for pushing him to his limits during Mountaineering School. Failure had not been an option then, and it wasn’t one now.

Tweeter climbed easily and effortlessly at his side, using a hand to keep Tessa’s head from flopping around even with the neck brace.

The computer geek brother of Keely Walsh-Maddox might never have served in the military, but Earl would take the man climbing in a war zone any damn time. The man was a cool customer under pressure, and if Earl hadn’t been here, he didn’t doubt the youngest Walsh son would’ve gotten Tessa up the side of the ravine all by himself.

A slurred “sorry” was murmured against his neck. Tessa had roused again as she was jostled about on his back. Her bruised and lacerated front had to be hurting. He wanted to howl at the pain he was causing her.

“Shh, we’ll talk later, sweetheart.” Earl paused long enough to turn his head toward her face. Tessa had somehow raised her head and was looking at him through slitted lashes covered in ice crystals. He smiled with what he hoped was reassurance. “Close your eyes, Tessa. You’re safe with me.”

She blinked and buried her face against his neck with a deep sigh. She went even limper against him, and he began climbing faster.

Ren looked over the edge, his facial expression fierce, and spoke over the headsets. “You’re close. Price, Paul, and I have you. Tweeter, Loren has you. Let us do all the work once you get to road level.”

“Roger that.” Earl kept climbing. Tweeter echoed him a second later.

When he and Tweeter reached road level, two sets of hands pulled him and Tessa over the edge and onto the top of the small stone wall. Earl let Ren and Price unhook Tessa and take her off his back while he held on to the wall.

His body was wracked with shudders as the combination of fatigue and stress hit him. His rasping breaths showed as little puffs of white in the frigid air. He took the short respite to regain control over his body after the arduous climb in blizzard conditions. Even now, he could barely see ten feet in front of him, and the storm was getting worse.

Once Tessa was freed from his back, he swung over the wall and stood. Shoving the effects of the climb aside, he held out his arms to Ren. “Give her to me.”

Ren handed her over, and Earl jogged toward the Hummer they’d come in. It was barely visible through the sideways sheets of snow.

Pacing him, Ren said, “We set up the back seat. Lay her on the reclined one. Get the IV started, and then we’ll head back to the Lodge. Short clock, guys. The storm front is moving through now.”

“Roger that.” Earl lifted Tessa into the back of the Hummer. Price had beaten them to the vehicle and was ready to take her inside. Earl followed quickly and began to strip the wet clothing off Tessa.

Price moved to help, but Earl glared. “I got this. Thanks. Get the IV started, okay?”

Price nodded and began testing for a vein on the arm closest to him. He swore like the SEAL he’d been. “Shit, her veins are sunken. She’s too dehydrated. Her blood volume sucks. Butterfly it?”

“Do it.” Earl grunted as he wiped the chilled dampness off Tessa’s skin with one of the extra blankets in the Hummer and began to stuff Tessa into a man’s thermal long-sleeved shirt and long johns. “Somebody get some dry socks on her and warm gel packs on her extremities.”

He wasn’t sure who responded, but soon Tessa had on two pairs of men’s thermal socks with hot gel packs between the layers on the soles of her feet.

Tessa moaned in pain. He knew how it must feel—like hot pokers stabbing her feet―but she needed to get warmed up. He took care of the hand Price wasn’t working on, using two more socks with a hand warmer between them. With the butterfly stick going into the vein on the top of her hand, the IV fluid should help warm that hand up.

“Any more blankets?” Earl sat next to Tessa on the side that didn’t have the IV. He opened his jacket and the heat he’d built up climbing almost created mist in the cold air coming from outside the Hummer. He pulled Tessa with Price’s help into his arms and pulled his jacket over her as much as he could.

Price wrapped two more blankets over Tessa and tucked a larger warm gel pack under the blankets at her waist to help with the warming. “Best we can do for now. You all set?”

“Yeah, let’s go.” Earl rubbed his cheek over the top of Tessa’s head as it lay on his shoulder. He angled his face and kissed her cold forehead. “Hang in there, sweetheart.”

Price nodded, shut the rear passenger side door, and climbed into the front next to Ren. The other men had already started back to the Lodge to make sure all was ready to receive Tessa.

As Ren sped up the road, the Hummer’s heating system began to pour out its heat.

Earl was hotter than hell, but he could care less. Tessa had started to moan and shiver. The heating packs and the fluids and electrolytes were doing their job. He only hoped they’d gotten to her in time and had managed to forestall any permanent damage.

Price looked over the back of the passenger seat. “How’s her face? Any noticeable frost bite?”

Earl tipped up Tessa’s head and looked. He let out a sigh. “Looks okay. She must have just fallen unconscious right before we reached her. She climbed for a ways, so she had some circulation and heat production while she was exerting.”

“It was hard.” Tessa’s eyes remained closed and her voice was weak, but the slurring was almost gone. “Thought I was gonna croak. So sick. So tired.” She let out a sigh and snuggled into Earl’s chest. “Warm. Nice. Smell good.” Then she yawned like a kitten who’d tired itself out and relaxed bonelessly into him.

“God, baby.” Earl kissed the top of her head.

Price looked from Earl to Tessa and then back. “You claiming her?”

“Yeah.” Earl glared at the too-handsome man. “You got a problem with that?”

From what Earl had heard from the other SSI men, Price had nailed every eligible female over twenty-one and under thirty-five in Idaho County and points north to Coeur d’Alene. The man wasn’t getting anywhere near Tessa if he could help it.

“I don’t poach.” Price turned to look out the front as they approached the Lodge’s underground garage area. “But it’s her choice, ya know. I’ll be around in case she decides she doesn’t want to be claimed.”

Ren shook his head. “Price, do you have a death wish?”

“Nope, just sayin’ little Tessa hasn’t agreed to take on Big Earl.” Price sounded smug.

“She will.” Earl kissed her cheek and nuzzled her ear. “She likes how I smell.”

“She will.” Earl kissed her cheek and nuzzled her ear. “She likes how I smell.”

That admission had set it in stone as far as he was concerned. She recognized him on some primal level just as he recognized her. She was his, and he was hers, and all that was left were the details of how soon she’d move in with him.

One Hot KnightI’d like to welcome my friend and fellow Love Lust and Laptops’ author, Christy Gissendaner, who is on a month-long blog tour to promote her newest book, Hot Knight, coming out from Entangled Covet line on July 22nd. Please register at the end using Rafflecopter for a chance to win a prize from Christy.

Today, Christy’s blog topic is addressing…

Baby Watching

We all know why we do it. Self-promotion, right? While touring the blog circuit, we all have one goal in mind. Sell, sell, sell. But this stop is going to be different. For once, I’m taking a break of talking “books” (not that I do it very much anyway) and going off-roading straight into my topic today.

Baby watching. I said baby watching, not making. Just to make that very clear. I’m in no way, shape, or form pregnant. Thank goodness! Three back-to-back pregnancies were enough for this gal right here. But who is pregnant? Kate Middleton, Duchess of So-and-So. I haven’t seen this big of a media flurry since…since…well, Kate and William’s wedding a little while back.

Being under the scrutiny of so many people while nine months pregnant has to take a toll on the poor gal. I couldn’t imagine waddling around with thick ankles and spotty face and having photogs snap pictures of me! Yet the unbelievable calm, smooth-skinned duchess does it with aplomb. So props to you, Mom-to-Be. Although I suppose I should be upset that you make us mere mortals look like amateurs…

As rumors are swirling that Baby Royal will be born very soon, I’m hoping this post appears before the momentous occasion takes place. But just in case I beat them to the punch, I’m going to make my guess. I’m thinking it’ll be a girl. Dark blonde hair. Blue eyes.

So what about ya’ll? Care to take a guess on what the new baby will be? And who was your favorite celebrity to “baby watch”? Please don’t say Kim Kardashian….

Great Romantic Suspense Beach Reads

Welcome to the Love’s A Beach blog hop from the folks at JustRomanceMe.  If this is your first time on the blog tour bus, you’re in for a treat.  If you’re a regular welcome back!

If you started here, you might want to go back and begin HERE. That way you will take the blog tour bus from the beginning, won’t miss any of the great blogs, and then have the chance to enter for FREE to win great prizes provided by the participating authors including a Nook with Glowlight loaded with books. Oh, and winners will be announced at Gem Sivad’s place on Sunday, August 19th at 7 pm (EST), during a live chat with many of the authors and fellow hoppers.

Oh, and if you read all the way to the end — there is a chance to win a FREE book on this blog, also!

What do I like to read in the summer? What books would I take to the beach? My favorite genre to escape it all — and let’s face it when you’re at the beach, you want to escape your usual 24/7 life — is the romantic suspense/thriller/mystery genre.

And it just so happens, I will be moderating a panel of some of the bestselling romantic suspense/thriller/mystery authors this October 4-7, in Cleveland, Ohio during Bouchercon. Our panel is titled the “I Used to Love Her, But I Had to Kill Her” panel, named after a song from Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Guns ‘N Roses.  The subtitle of the panel is “Murder, Mayhem, and the Mattress Mambo.”  Heather Graham, Jordan Dane, CJ Lyons, Lori Armstrong, and myself will be discussing how sex plays a role in suspense/thrillers/mystery books.

Here are some sneak peeks into what this panel is all about– and  I’m sure, like me, you’ll find the perfect book for that lazy day on the beach — or wherever you go to escape every  day life.

From bestselling author, Heather Graham, comes the third and final book of her Krewe of Hunters Trilogy (publication date 8/28/2012).

Blurb:

Philadelphia mansion plays host to uninvited death

1777: In the throes of the Revolutionary War, Landon Mansion is commandeered by British Lord “Butcher” Bedford. He stabs Lucy Tarleton-who spurned his king and his love-leaving her to die in her father’s arms.

Now: After the day’s final tour, docent Allison Leigh makes her rounds while locking up…and finds a colleague slumped over Bedford’s desk, impaled on his own replica bayonet.

Resident ghosts may be the stock-in-trade of stately Philadelphia homes, but Allison-a noted historian-is indignant at the prospect of “ghost hunters” investigating this apparent murder.

Agent Tyler Montague knows his hauntings and his history. But while Allison is skeptical of the newcomer, a second mysterious murder occurs. Has “Butcher” Bedford resurfaced? Or is there another malevolent force at work in Landon Mansion? Wary, yet deeply attracted, Allison has to trust in Tyler and work with him to discover just what uninvited guest-dead or alive-has taken over the house.Or their lives could become history!

For more on the Krewe of Hunters Trilogy and all the other fabulous books Heather has authored, visit Heather Graham’s website.

From bestselling author, Jordan Dane, comes the third book in her Sweet Justice series, The Echoes of Violence (pub date 9/2010).

Blurb:

The Echo of Violence The man she’d trust with her heart could sabotage everything…

When terrorists attack a Haitian missionary school, brutally killing their hostages and posting videos of the senseless murders online, time is running out. Sentinels’ agent Alexa Marlowe is forced into an unlikely alliance with a relentless mercenary. But he is no stranger.

Jackson Kinkaid witnessed the raid, and only he can track the killers to their mountain stronghold. From bestselling author Lori Armstrong comes the second book in her Mercy Gunderson mystery series, Mercy Kill (pub date 1/2011 ).

Blurb:

Former Black Ops Army sniper, Mercy Gunderson isn’t adjusting well to the laid-back rhythm of civilian life on her family’s ranch in South Dakota. To fill her time, Mercy accepts a temporary bartending gig at a local watering hole. Yet her attempts to settle in back home are tested when Titan Oil, a Canadian company proposing to run an underground pipeline through Eagle River County, sends Jason Hawley, Mercy’s former Army buddy to the area to convince ranchers to get behind the project.

While local business owners support the pipeline, Hawley’s presence riles the landowners and Mercy is torn. After ugly threats and multiple altercations escalate tensions in the county, Mercy discovers Hawley’s brutally mutilated body in the bar parking lot. When it appears Sheriff Dawson cares more about campaigning for re-election than investigating the case, Mercy vows to find Jason Hawley’s killer—even if she has to run against Dawson for sheriff to ensure justice is served.

But Mercy soon learns her former military pal had plenty of secrets. Her search for the truth brings unwanted exposure to the county’s dark side and risks deadly repercussions for the entire community.

And finally we come to my most recent top seller, Cold Day in Hell, Book 2 in the Security Specialists International series.

Blurb:

Calista Meyers is a world-famous, soon-to-be-ex-supermodel. After arriving for a fashion shoot in Cartagena, Colombia, she realizes her agent has misled her about the nature of her last modeling assignment.

Paramilitary leader Jaime Cruz paid her slimy agent a lot of money to get Callie to his part of the world. Cruz has threatened to kidnap and kill her younger brothers if she attempts to leave the country.

What’s a Marine brat to do? Callie calls on her childhood friend Keely Walsh-Maddox and Keely’s husband Ren, the owner of Security Specialists International, to help her.

SSI sends operative Risto Smith to rescue Callie. The former Marine has had a thing for the model ever since he’d first seen her picture on a magazine cover. But he knows he isn’t nearly good enough for a lady like her. She’s an assignment and can be nothing else.

Callie knows Risto is just the man for her and decides to use the close quarters of their escape from Colombia to convince the stubborn male. When Risto leaves her in Panama and disappears, Callie is upset but not defeated. But after two months passes with no word from Risto and with her enemy Cruz in the US and back on her trail, Callie once again turns to Risto for protection.

This time, it would be a cold day in hell before Callie allows Risto to turn his back on their love.
